Frozen shoulder, also known as adhesive capsulitis, is a condition where the shoulder becomes very painful, stiff and restricted in movement.
Symptoms can often be debilitating and can make everyday tasks such as driving, dressing and sleeping very difficult. The exact cause of frozen shoulder is not clear but it is thought to be due to inflammation in the shoulder capsule and the formation of scar tissue.
Acupressure involves finger pressure to stimulate energy points on the body and has been used much more widely in New Zealand and America during childbirth by midwives and partners as a practical way of aiding with efficient labour.
A number of preliminary studies have shown that acupressure is a safe treatment for reducing labour pain and shortening the length of delivery time.
