PCOS Masterclass for Chinese Herbal Medicine Practitioners

ANNOUNCING a very special masterclass for 2024

I’m delighted to be hosting a dedicated Masterclass for Chinese herbal medicine practitioners on the topic of polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) this coming Autumn 2024!

This has been in the making for a long time now as I’ve honed in on my skills in almost two decades of clinical practice and academic research. And I am delighted to finally share my approach with practitioners looking for an integrated, evidence-informed way of working with this patient group.

In this online weekend course, I will be drawing on my expertise in both Chinese herbal medicine and Acupuncture to offer you a unique view of how I work with patients living with PCOS. I’ve seen firsthand how my approach gives patients not only a roadmap for navigating what can be a rollercoaster ride of medical appointments and emotions but also lasting relief from a range of distressing symptoms related to this hormonal condition. Long gone are the days when the average PCOS patient considering Chinese medicine is predominantly seeking help for issues relating to fertility. Patients now have access to so much more evidence and are so much better informed about the options available to them. This means that a more considered evidence-informed approach to supporting adolescents and women with PCOS across the lifespan is now extremely relevant to our clinical practice.

Topics to be covered over the 2-day course include:

  • PCOS and its effects on physical and mental health from adolescence to the reproductive years and through to the menopause;

  • PCOS phenotypes and how taking a worldview of it through my PhD research informed my understanding of the phenotypes from a Chinese medicine perspective;

  • How the 2023 international guidelines on the assessment and treatment of PCOS impacts the way we deliver care to our patients and our role in educating and advocating for our patients;

  • Chinese herbal treatment strategies for common PCOS presentations including oligomenorrhoea, amenorrhoea, IVF-specific issues including ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome (OHSS), acne, hirsutism and metabolic disorders including nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) - how is it treated in China, and how relevant are these strategies to patients we see in the West?;

  • The role of the microbiome in PCOS and how Chinese herbal medicine fits into this;

  • Spotlight on key English- as well as Chinese-language research studies that have informed my approach;

  • Case studies and discussion of learning points where the theory comes to life;

  • Very special guest appearances from internationally-renowned practitioners and academics!

This course is for you if you:

  • Are already qualified in Chinese herbal medicine, or are in the final year of your training;

  • Have a strong interest in understanding how Chinese herbal medicine can be utilised for patients with PCOS across their lifecourse, not just for fertility;

  • Wish to understand some of the nuances around appraising the latest English- and Chinese-language scientific research;

  • Are interested in adopting a more considered approach to integrating evidence to your clinical practice in order to build trust from patients and credibility amongst mainstream healthcare professionals.

This course will be informed by:

  • Almost 2 decades in clinical practice in NHS as well as private practice settings in London, Hertfordshire and Manchester;

  • Academic research from an NIHR-sponsored PhD on the topic of Chinese herbal prescribing for regulating menses in PCOS with a world-leading Russell Group university;

  • Leading both practitioner and patient research on the topic of PCOS.

This weekend Masterclass will be held online via Zoom in Autumn 2024 on:

Saturday 5th October and Sunday 6th October 2024 9.30am - 4.30pm (GMT)
